Debate Success for Ellen

Congratulations to Ellen, a Transition Year member of our Debate & Public Speaking Club, on her outstanding achievement in the 2025 Gráinne O’Neill Memorial Legal Essay Competition hosted by the Law Society of Ireland.

TY students from across the country were invited to submit a 1,500-word essay exploring the challenges surrounding online freedom of speech. Judges praised the exceptionally high standard of entries this year. Following regional judging by local solicitors, a select group of finalists progressed to the national round adjudicated by the Law Society of Ireland panel.

Ellen was invited, along with her family and teachers, to a celebratory ceremony hosted by the Law Society, where she was presented with a Certificate of Achievement in recognition of her brilliant work.

Opportunities such as this are actively promoted throughout the year by Heads of Debate, and any students interested are always encouraged to give them a try!
