Dr. Richard Hogan 👏

What an evening at St. Aloysius College.

Huge thanks to Dr. Richard Hogan for taking time from his busy schedule to visit us last night - words of wisdom, tips and advice on how to parent today’s ‘screenager’

Key takeaways:

1️⃣ Start by reconnecting as parents.

2️⃣ Provide your teenager with a safe environment in which to make mistakes, fail and try again.

3️⃣ Carve out family connection time at the dinner table without phones & devices.

4️⃣ Remove phones & devices from bedrooms at night right through secondary school.

5️⃣ Challenge the stereotypes & allow your teenager opportunities to see through the facade of social media ‘perfection’ in all of it’s forms.

6️⃣ Keep on encouraging your teenager to connect and engage even when they feel like they don’t want to - exposure to fear factors & success in exposure reaps rewards and reduces the fear factors.

7️⃣ Connect with St. Aloysius College and build a community of support and collaboration together.

⭐️ Thank you to all of our wonderful parents & staff for making the effort to attend.

⭐️ Thank you to Ms. Harrington for spearheading this first parent talk in our suite of supports this year.

🗓️ Connect with our Parents’ Association at our next meeting on October 7th at 7pm online - see you there for more connection, laughter and shared joy for our students and young people 🤍👌🏽
