School of Sanctuary

First Year students Sophie, Emi and Chloe

We have begun our journey to secure the award of School of Sanctuary.

A ‘School of Sanctuary' is a school that is committed to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment that benefits all community members but especially our student refugees and asylum seekers.

The focus of the initiative is to raise awareness of what some of our students faced travelling to and settling in Ireland.

The three Sanctuary principles are to learn, share and act and our school pledge is the first step in our commitment to uphold the principles of the Sanctuary.

Our next step will be an information session for students from leading members of the refugee community here in Cork who are also School of Sanctuary Ambassadors.

Thank you to First year students, Sophie, Emi and Chloe pictured here, for helping promote the School of Sanctuary around our school.

School of Sanctuary Pledge signed by many students and staff.

We had the honour of Dr. Manizha Khan visiting our school last week. As a School of Sanctuary ambassador, advocate of refugee rights and a recent guest on the Tommy Tiernan show, she gave a powerful presentation on her journey from being the Dean of Dentistry in Afghanistan to finding herself and her family refugees in Ireland.
