Catholic Schools Week
“A Call to Holiness in Prayer”
Catholic Schools Week 2026 began on Monday with the theme “A Call to Holiness in Prayer,” inviting our whole school community to reflect on the importance of prayer, service and kindness in our daily lives.
On Tuesday, Sr. Nora warmly welcomed our 2nd Year RE class to the convent as part of Catholic Schools Week. The visit reflected the week’s message of kindness and the importance of prayer, and all involved enjoyed a lovely and meaningful experience.
On Wednesday, we extend a huge thank you to Mary McCormack and Olive Keane, who delivered a fantastic St. Brigid’s Cross-Making workshop with our 1st Year students. As part of the celebration, we honoured our grandparents, who passed this beautiful tradition down to many of us. St. Brigid was a woman of integrity and courage, may we strive to follow her example. Sincere thanks also to our TY students who assisted with the workshop.
As part of Grandparents Day, Sr. Kathleen spoke to Ms. McCarthy’s 6th Years about honouring our ancestors, with a special focus on our Foundress, Venerable Magdalen Taylor, and the lasting legacy she has left us.
Rang Darina visited our parish church to reflect on holiness through service. Students listened to inspiring reflections on Blessed Carlo Acutis, Sr. Claire Crockett, and Venerable Magdalen Taylor. We are very grateful to Fr. Winkle for facilitating access to the church.
On Friday, we welcomed David Hoey from Cork Street Pastors, who spoke to our 5th Year students during a prayer service centred on the theme “Holiness and Mission.” David shared insights into the vital work carried out on the streets of Cork, supporting vulnerable people and young people by offering a listening ear and creating safe spaces.
A heartfelt thank you to Rocha, Grace and Justyna for their beautiful music and singing, to Jemma for her wonderful reading, and to all our 5th Year students who listened so attentively and respectfully.
Our 2nd Year group also had the opportunity to visit the SMG Chapel with Sr. Nora, further enriching their experience of Catholic Schools Week.
Sincere thanks to our chaplain Ms. McCarthy and Ms. O’Leary for organising such an inspirational and faith-filled week for our school community.
