Student Council Trip to Dublin

It was an early start for our student council members on Tuesday as they travelled to Dublin with visits to Dáil & Seanad Éireann, The National Museum & the Book of Kells Experience at Trinity College on the agenda!

Their tour guide referred to our student council members as the most popular school group he’s ever encountered with VIP meetings a plenty with multiple Cork TDs and Ministers saying hello across the morning. Well done to each of our students for taking the initiative to contact their local and national representatives in advance of their visit!

Our students were particularly interested and engaged with the importance of more equitable representation of women as TDs at government - 44 female TDS in the current Dàil out of 174 seats! That’s only 25% - in perfect time for IWD2026 we brought our message of representation and female voice right to the heart of the government today.

Next up with a spot of lunch in the Grafton St. sunshine followed by a spellbinding visit to the Book of Kells & Long Room at Trinity College.

Finally, a stop at the National Museum where we navigated ancient Celtic civilisations from Ireland to Egypt and swooned over the beauty of the myriad antiquities on display before comparing the preservation textures of the various bog men on display on the ground floor.

A huge thank you from each of the Student Council to Mr. McConn for organising this trip and to Paul from Fogarty’s buses for transporting us.
